June 2011 WCR President’s Message
We are living through one of the most challenging periods of our lifetime. We have more financial stress, more health issues, more natural disasters, social pressures, higher divorce rates, higher crime statistics, and more, more, more!
I was thinking about one the first safety features they tell you on an airplane before take off; in the event of a loss of cabin pressure, locate the oxygen mask overhead. They proceed to tell you if you are sitting next to a child or a person in need, they instruct you to put your mask on first before assisting the one next to you. The point being, take care of yourself before you help others. Today’s stress and disasters calls for help from anywhere and anyone that can provide. So we must make sure that we are taking care of ourselves so that we are positioned to be most effective in helping others.
Our industry coupled with the state of our economy provides many opportunities for us to help. Are you prepared and armed with the proper tools, information and education? Do you ever feel like you forgot to put on that oxygen mask? We are here to help and empower each other to be the best we can be in our profession. Check out our education schedule and all the many classes that are offered through COAR and Affiliates. Are you in need of a little rejuvenation? There are statistics that two cups of tea a day lowers your risk of cancer. Call me or a fellow member to have a cup of tea and a walk around the park. It’s amazing how just that can make you feel better! I am open for a walk and a cup of tea and I am sure there are others, too!
